With the arrival for Bernd Leno, there is no longer room for David Ospina at Arsenal.

Arsenal is in the middle of a serious reshuffle. A number of sentimental players have left the club, along with some of the staff – including, of course, Arsene Wenger.

While it’s quite emotional for the Arsenal faithful to watch, you can’t say it wasn’t needed. For too long now, the club has rested on their laurels, and relied on fan sentimentality to get a free pass.

The people who can truly steer Arsenal in the right direction remain at the club. Give or take the odd few. *Cough* Stan Kroenke *cough*.

With that, of course, have come a number of signings and appointments from the hierarchy. The most recent of the bunch is Bernd Leno, one of the best Bundesliga goalkeepers.

What does this mean for Petr Cech and David Ospina?

Petr Cech recently claimed the number one shirt, quite the step up from his previous 33 shirt. He doesn’t look like he’ll leave, as he could spend the closing stages of his career at Arsenal.

David Ospina on the other hand, would be nothing more than a reserve goalkeeper should he stay in North London. This is a role which is beneath him, as he deserves to be getting regular first team football.

It’s reported that Boca Juniors are interested in his signature. This would be a good move for him, because he needs to be getting consistent football somewhere.

It will be a shame to see, because many expected big things of Ospina. He signed off the back of an impressive 2014 World Cup with Colombia, but his time at Arsenal didn’t reflect that.

More from Arsenal FC

Of course, he’s had a few memorable performances. Good displays against Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur spring to mind. However, in the grand scheme of things, he will by no means go down as an Arsenal legend.

As for Petr Cech, he will probably become Arsenal’s cup goalkeeper. It was a method which Wenger adopted, and it served the likes of Lukasz Fabianski well.

What does Bernd Leno bring?

Hunger. That’s the first word which springs to mind.

He is always willing to learn and improve, which has shown in a number of his loan performances in the past. He is looking to take the international throne from Manuel Neuer, so learning under Jens Lehmann is definitely the way to go.

He won’t see Cech as competition, only a mentor. Cech has been in the business for the longest time, and during his time with both Chelsea and Arsenal, has picked up on a few pointers.

This is why I believe it’s best to sell Ospina, and keep Cech for as long as possible.
