Mesut Ozil isn’t waiting around to take the number 10 shirt at Arsenal.

The number 10 jersey has been claimed by many iconic names at Arsenal in the past. Most recently belonging to Jack Wilshere, the likes of Robin van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp and Paul Merson all donned the number beforehand.

Mesut Ozil is used to playing in the number 10 position, but he needed to settle for the number 11 when he joined from Real Madrid. He plays with the number 10 jersey for the German national team, which is why many see it as iconic.

He must have licked his lips when he saw Wilshere was departing the club. No time for bro code, it’s time to take that number, Mesut!

According to Daily Mail, his sponsorship deal with Adidas has played a huge part in his decision to take the number. He will request to wear number 10 heading into the 2018/19 season.

Number 10 certainly suits him. He likes to play in the position just behind the striker, however he has needed to adapt in his opening years at Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil shocked the world when he signed a new deal at the start of the year. It was thought he would follow former Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez in departing the club, but he stuck true to his loyalties.

Arsene Wenger was key to his decision, so it will take some time for Ozil to warm to Unai Emery, the new manager of Arsenal.

One thing’s for sure, he’ll be a much happier man should he land the number 10 shirt. Fans will be happy too, as they’ve been making their pleas on social media.

Mesut Ozil will look to be the creative force for Arsenal once again next season. He has new company in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, so there shouldn’t be a shortage of goals.

He is currently representing Germany at the World Cup, so should Die Mannschaft progress in the competition, he will come back to London brimming with confidence.

He has never been one to go about demanding things, despite being the most talented player on offer at Arsenal.

Next season, he will need to get used to a lack of leniency from Unai Emery, as unlike Wenger, the Spaniard doesn’t have time to make friendships.
