Germany vs. South Korea

Germany is tied for second place on three points with Sweden at the moment. They are ahead of Sweden due to their head to head record which saw Toni Kroos score a ridiculous free kick in the dying embers of the match.

That win gave Germany the lifeline they needed to advance to the next round. Their fate is in their own hands now as they face South Korea in their final match.

More from World Cup

Germany can move on under a few different scenarios. A win or draw by Germany coupled with a Sweden loss is an automatic qualification for the reigning champions.

They would likely finish in second barring a massive scoring onslaught and a minuscule Mexico victory.

Germany can also move on if both matches end in identical draw results. In other words, if both matches finish 1-1. Germany would move on due to their head to head record with Sweden.

A 2-2 draw with Sweden and Mexico coupled with a 1-1 draw between Germany and South Korea would see Sweden move on, however. This is due to the goals scored tie breaker leaning in Swedens favor.

South Korea has the hardest challenge of making it out of the group. They need to beat the determined German side by at least two goals to make up their minus two goal differential.

They also need Mexico to beat Sweden outright, as this would tip the goal differential in South Korea’s favor, even in a 1-0 Mexico victory.

Overall, Germany has the easier go of the two teams. They will undoubtably be going for a convincing win and will push men forward, just as they have done for the past two matches. South Korea will know this going in and should look to hit the Germans on the counter attack.

Clearly, Group F is a hectic group that can finish in a multitude of ways. The fact that all four teams have a chance to move on makes this one of the most exciting final days in the whole tournament.

With even the current group leader capable missing out on the next round, all four teams will be fighting for their lives for the full 90 minutes.

Expect to see tentative football at times with an emphasis on finishing chances when they are presented.
