How the mighty have fallen. Germany crash out of the World Cup following a 2-0 loss to South Korea. Here are the best Twitter reactions to an enormous upset.

Brazil were keen to revenge their disastrous 7-1 semi-finals loss to Germany, as hosts of the 2014 World Cup. Alas, that will not happen as the Germans are currently traveling home. South Korea inflicted the final damage on Joaquin Low’s side.

Regardless of English/German intensities over the years, I love their football ethos. Their approach is emulated or plagiarised by many elite nations. And rightly so. In fact, as well as Brazil, we all look up to them – be honest!

However, sporting humour is an ingenious banter arena. And without further ado, here are our favourite German exit tweets:

First of all, Fox Sports Brazil did exact retribution for their countrymen. They can dish it out, but will hopefully get some returned too.

Arsenal fans were quick to highlight Per Mertesacker’s absense as a potential reason for their untimely eradication. They ironically chose to show his perplexing dance moves as indication of fluid movement.

In a more crass effort, World Cup Stuff represented the salt-of-the-earth Englishman‘s general opinion. Furthermore, Jay Cartwright is not known for his diplomacy.

Revealing of my age, maybe, but can I please recommend this 1990’s Fast Show sketch. It is perfect in exhibiting a glacial, unamused Die Mannschaft disposition.

K-pop definitely magnifies Germany’s issues in magnificently absurd and contradictory style.

A swift exit, in both senses of the phrase.

Manager Joachim Low refused to blame Mesut Ozil for their elimination. Although, clearly the Arsenal man is no longer a favourite of his international boss, having been dropped for match two.

"“It wasn’t only Ozil, a number of other players didn’t perform as they normally would,” – Joachim Low (Via Daily Express)"

Below is another, bizarre, take on that relationship upheaval.

Myth busters

A legendary myth was debunked during the tournament’s final group games. Manuel Neuer is supposedly a quality outfielder, so far as he is competent in midfield, training against fellow German champions, like Ozil. Well in reality, he is rubbish. Is the touch below an indication that he missed his calling? No. Until recently he was the best goalkeeper around though.

Unfairly to the England squad, this was posted. Yet they are spot on about Germany’s huge mistake to undervalue Leroy Sane and leave him on the beach!

An interesting take from a Korean/German family here. I could not help but laugh at the sheer parody elements.

A poignant and classy message emerged from the official German account, subsequently. Although it must leave an awfully bitter taste. Please DFB, take it as a footballing compliment that people are saying, ‘Ah, so they are human, after all.’
