Gary Cahill: 8

Gary Cahill had little to do at the beginning. Cleared a spilt handle by Pickford. Fought well as always. And on the ball Chelsea’s stalwart is back to his relaxed best.

Made successful blocks and interceptions throughout. Overpowered his opponents effectively easily. Only found lacking once isolated with a skilful fast striker; such as Michy Batshuayi

John Stones:7.5

John Stones is comfortable and a calming influence once again at the back. Emulated greats of the game with his incredibly accurate long passing. An alternative captain for me.

However, first half he delayed a pass unnecessarily and was almost caught in possession. This could lead to goals; Pickford reminded him of haste in that scenario. Stones was withdrawn at half-time. According to Independent Sport he sadly has a calf-injury.

Phil Jones: 7.5

Phil Jones had a relaxed start to the match, not by his choosing. Yet he slots in superbly; if we need him going further. His anticipation of opponents’ passes was second to none.

His eagerness brought him up the field, yet he is sometimes overzealous. Consequently he is needlessly penalised. In possession he made well executed forward transition of the ball. Occasionally rather rash in technique and thought while under pressure. Did himself no harm in performance.
