Arsenal look close to signing Lucas Torreira, but they have another option now.

Arsenal certainly aren’t messing around in this transfer window. After securing the signings of Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulous and Stephan Lichtsteiner, they are still looking to improve.

Fans hope to do so in the shape of Lucas Torreira, who is impressing at the World Cup with his country Argentina.

A deal looks to be confirmed after the competition, with Arsenal having a lot of trust in Sampdoria.

However, things have only became more confusing, as recent news from Daily Mail would suggest.

The outlet report Steven N’Zonzi has handed in a transfer request at Sevilla so he can join Arsenal.

Should Arsenal consider Steven N’Zonzi?

I think it depends on the circumstances. If they can sign both N’Zonzi and Torreira, then sure, go for it. However, if it’s a choice between one or the other, it has to be Torreira.

Torreira is much younger than N’Zonzi, and he has more to offer heading forward. He has shown how exciting he is as a player, with the likes of Luis Suarez heaping huge praise on him.

N’Zonzi is a figure of the past at Arsenal, and he’s beginning to head into the exit stages of his career. He is worth pursuing should he be available for dirt cheap, but if not, the North London club mustn’t jeopardize their chances of signing Torreira for him.

This says a lot about Unai Emery.

Steven N’Zonzi must have enjoyed his time with Unai Emery so much to reunite with his former boss. The two endured a healthy connection during their time together at Sevilla.

Unai Emery is easy to get along with, despite his stern approach. He must have taught N’Zonzi a lot for him to come crawling back.

Handing in a transfer request is something which players give a lot of thought to. They don’t just suddenly want to leave.

One would assume that Emery’s appointment at Arsenal played a huge part in N’Zonzi’s desire to join the club.

Even if the Gunners don’t chase the Frenchman, they can still find excitement in Emery heading forward.

Many players have complimented the coaches approach to man-management, and with a lot of Arsenal players needing a kick up the backside, times are exciting at the club.
