With Jorge Sampaoli’s future as manager up in the air, Argentina will reportedly make a stunning offer to Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola.

Having just been eliminated by a talented France squad in the Round of 16, Argentina have just finished one of their more disappointing World Cup campaigns in recent memory.

With the squad in total disarray throughout their time in Russia and rumors of player unrest, there is much speculation in regards to the future of Jorge Sampaoli as manager of the Albiceleste, with many calling for the sacking of the former Sevilla head man.

With Sampaoli likely not being in the AFA’s future plans, Argentina will look to bring in an elite manager who can lead them to glory at the upcoming Copa America in 2019.

The likes of Diego “El Cholo” Simeone will always be brought up, and former manager and legendary player Diego Maradona has even offered to return as manager for free.

More from Manchester City

Yet according to multiple reports, the AFA is set to approach Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola with a shocking offer to take charge of the crumbling Argentinian squad.

According to AS, the Argentinian Football Association is set to offer City’s title winning manager a $12 million-per-year deal that would last until 2022.

AS go on to report that half of Guardiola’s wages would be paid by the AFA and the other half would be paid by Torneos, an Argentine sports communications firm that currently owns the television rights of the national team.

Additionally, AS report that Guardiola told star striker Sergio Aguero via a telephone conversation that he would be keen on the opportunity to coach the Albiceleste.

It is extremely important to note that the Catalan has just recently renewed his Manchester City contract until 2021, making it seemingly unlikely that he would leave the newly crowned Premier League champions.

For the time being, expect Guardiola to remain as City’s head man and be poised to repeat as Premier League winners.

Though as previously reported, Guardiola has shown interest in one day coaching a national side with a historically elite side such as Argentina perhaps serving as an ideal landing spot.
