Earlier on Friday, PSG, announced the signing of veteran goalkeeper, Buffon. The Italian keeper can make an impact in his short time with the French side.

Gianluigi Buffon had an illustrious career with Juventus. He spent 17 years there growing into arguably the greatest keeper ever. Being 40 years old now, it came as a surprise when PSG announced his arrival.

PSG were happy to announce the signing in a humorous video via their Twitter page.

There’s life in the ol’ boy

Despite his age, Buffon still brings lots of experience and leadership to the team. During his time with Juventus he earned 11 Serie A titles and 4 Coppa Italia’s.

Unfortunately, he was only able to finish second in the Champion’s League on three different occasions.

Similarly to his club performance, Buffon was a star on the international stage, making 176 appearances. Following him are legends Cannavaro and Maldini with 136 and 126 appearances respectively.

With his arrival, PSG’s goalkeeper position is brought into question. Areola is in a difficult situation. He has been good to the club but they seek more experience to help win bigger trophies.

In the 2017/2018 campaign, Areola made 42 appearances and totaled 3,780 minutes. Previously hes averaged about 35 appearances a season. Contrastingly, Buffon has been Juventus first choice keeper for years, making over 30 appearances a season consistently.

Mentor for Areola

However, Buffon’s signing will be good for Areola. The Italian’s experience will eventually rub off on the young keeper. He can sow him guidance to improve his game to become the commander that PSG seek in the back.

Additionally, this move can benefit Buffon greatly. He’s been unable to win a Champion’s League despite all the trophies in his career. Real Madrid and Barcelona have given him tough defeats in recent years.

PSG have a talented side with the likes of Neymar, Mbappe, and Cavani in attack. As well as a competent midfield of Veratti and Rabiot. The quality in this squad can reach the finals with a keeper like him in net.

Ultimately he’ll only be at the club for a year, with the possibility for another. He’s still a world class keeper with plenty to offer. Buffon’s signing could prove to be be the most important within the next year.
