Paris Saint-Germain will face a challenge to keep their Brazilian star Neymar at the club.

Paris Saint-Germain are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, located in one of Europe’s top cities. This is why many are surprised they struggle to keep stars. However, when it comes to Neymar, it’s a different story.

The Brazilian is very demanding, PSG knew this when they contacted FC Barcelona about his services. When you leave FC Barcelona, it’s clear you’re not an easy man to please.

Rumor has it that after just one year in Paris, Neymar could be set to leave and join another club. Reports of a move to Real Madrid have been flying around for many months.

However, according to Mundo Deportivo, PSG have a plan up their sleeves. They believe that the star’s international teammate Philippe Coutinho could persuade him to stay.

PSG would need to pay Barcelona another hefty fee, one which would outweigh the price Barca paid Liverpool to sign him. The fee is rumored to be around £240m.

Will it be worth it?

It’s always hard to determine whether or not a potential world record fee is worth it. I personally believe bringing Coutinho in for that price would be worth it, but only if it keeps Neymar at the club.

For a fee of £240m, PSG could essentially be getting two players for the price of one, although one of which is already theirs – confusing, I know.

The huge fee would definitely persuade Barcelona to sell, and they’ll be laughing at this point with all the money they’ve taken from Paris Saint-Germain.

A proven duo

We’ve seen that having both Neymar and Coutinho on the same team works. Although Brazil coasted out at the hands of Germany, it served them well.

Coutinho has creativity in abundance, while Neymar has the speed to get behind lethargic defenders. There are a lot of these defenders in Ligue 1.

PSG’s aims though, will be on the Champions League. It’s a competition which continues to elude them, despite the increased interest within the last decade.

Having both Coutinho and Neymar will definitely be a statement, as both of them have the ability to push for silverware. Having learned under some of the best in Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, they will bring a lot to the table.
