3. Discipline, it’s a painstaking art

You can point to a number of Arsenal’s frailties over the last decade, but what it all boils down to is a lack of discipline.

This is because Arsene Wenger simply couldn’t provide such a thing during the closing stages of his career. Naturally, he let his trust for player be taken advantage of, and inevitably it was him who received the blame.

However, this is where Unai Emery differs. He only puts trust into players he feels is good enough to challenge for silverware, and if anybody takes advantage of him, they’re in for a rough ride.

The reason this is so effective, is because players don’t want to see that side of him. He’s quite the scary character, so naturally they respect him. And of course, he then gives them respect in return, alongside pointers on how to excel in the footballing ladder.

A number of Emery’s previous players have benefited from this stern yet subtle approach. Although he’s acting up now, during his time under Emery, Neymar remained grounded and his statistics matched with his performances shown a huge increase.

Players like Mesut Ozil and Hector Bellerin will benefit from this approach, along with a number of the youth players at Arsenal. It definitely is exciting at the club.

Of course, these promising signs are yet to be tested. And Arsenal’s first real test will come against Manchester City on the opening week of the Premier League season.
