Chelsea fear they may lose Thibaut Courtois to Real Madrid, so they need to resolve this quickly.
Reportedly, Chelsea and Real Madrid have agreed a fee for Thibaut Courtois. This suggests the transfer is close to completion, and a shortlist of potential replacements must be drawn.
In a shock twist to events, it’s been said by the Guardian that Chelsea are interested in re-signing Petr Cech from Arsenal. The Czech international was pushed out of Stamford Bridge by Courtois, so this would certainly be an interesting end to the saga.
But, are Chelsea right in doing so?

There’s no denying that goalkeepers can go for a lot longer than outfield players. Cech has shown many signs of frailty with age, but he can still pull off wonder saves.
With the right coaching, and a return to familiar settings, the goalkeeper could prove to be an underrated signing heading into next season.
Obviously it doesn’t look good right now in regards to Chelsea, though. With Liverpool potentially adding Alisson to the mix, and Arsenal signing Bernd Leno from the Bundesliga, downgrading could prove to have detrimental impact on the Blues.
They need to be improving under Maurizio Sarri, and if Cech’s Arsenal form continues, then they are a long way off doing so.
Arsenal fans are celebrating.
Obviously, Arsenal fans aren’t known to remain quiet on social media. They seem to be more happy than Chelsea fans with this news, judging by Twitter reactions…
Arsenal may be reluctant to sell, though.
It’s important to remember that Arsenal just signed Bernd Leno. And while it looks likely the German will take the first team role at the Gunners. But, he still needs a backup.
With David Ospina moving to Boca Juniors an increasingly likely scenario, this could result in the North London club being more reluctant to sell Cech.
Cech is a perfect backup goalkeeper, at least for one more season. If Chelsea do come in to try and sign him, then Arsenal should consider this.
Unai Emery hasn’t ruled out the possibility of bringing in any new signings. That said, if Cech is to join Chelsea again, then Arsenal may look at signing a relatively cheap backup keeper with the money they get.
