Chelsea loaned Batshuayi off the German side Borussia Dortmund in January, and the 24-year old shined in the Bundesliga. He netted nine times in 14 appearances. Batshuayi is now done his loan with Dortmund, and back in a Chelsea uniform. The striker deserves his chance to be in the starting eleven at Stamford Bridge this season.
Chelsea has a history of not giving quality players a fair shake. Premier league stars like Mo Salah, and Kevin De Bruyne got their careers started with Chelsea, and now are two of the best players in all of Europe. Antonio Conte, who was just dismissed of his duties with the Blues earlier this week, barely put Michy Bathsuayi on the pitch last season. The Belgian international then took the opportunity to go to Germany and get some playing time, and it really paid off. Batshuayi was one of Dortmund’s most impressive attacking threats towards the end of last season, scoring numerous goals in his short stint with the German giants.
Bathsuayi has proved himself
In ten appearances with Chelsea last season across all competitions, Bathsuayi scored ten times. Despite the fact that he clearly proved he has what it takes to be a regular player for the Blues, he was never given the chance. Time and time again Conte kept choosing Alvaro Morata over Bathsuayi up front. Morata was a decent player last season. But personally, I don’t think he has the same presence and skill up front that Batshuayi possesses.
With a new manager for the Blues in Maurizio Sarri, hopefully, he has a different outlook on his players than Conte had. Batshuayi even voiced to the media about how he was so welcomed and respected when he went to Dortmund in January. He had so much confidence because he was treated the right way and put on the field on a consistent basis. For any footballer, when you’re treated the right way by your club and put in the right spots to succeed, it really helps your performance on the pitch. With the Blues, he has never been given that opportunity. Frankly, he hasn’t been treated well at all since coming to Stamford Bridge in 2016.
Dortmund showed their interest in signing Batshuayi to a long-term deal after his impressive stint last season. But after he went down with an ankle injury in April, he missed the remainder of the season and ultimately has returned to the Blues for the upcoming season.
New manager, new start
With a new manager in charge of the Blues, this could be a whole new start for Batshuayi. It’s almost like a new signing for Chelsea since Mauricio Sarri is heading into his first year as bench boss of Chelsea. Sarri will have different tactics than Conte had in terms of formation, style of play, etc. This could all be a plus for Batshuayi. He is a very independent striker who has an outstanding combination of strength, skill, and speed. After proving his worth at Dortmund, Batshuayi has earned his chance with the Blues.
Batshuayi was also a contributing part of Belgium’s World Cup squad this summer too, scoring once in a 5-2 win over Tunisia in the group stages. He’s gained valuable experience internationally with the Red Devils, which will definitely help him in the future.

There shouldn’t be any reason Michy Batshuayi should be riding the bench with Chelsea this season. He is a great player and really proved that to be true in Germany. If he can produce at the same rate as he did with Dortmund, Chelsea have an extremely valuable player right at their fingertips.
He is the type of player who puts 110 percent in everytime he steps on the pitch. Batshuayi is someone that Chelsea should want in their starting eleven on a weekly basis.
