Three player’s Manchester United must sign this summer
3. IVAN PERISIC – Winger (Inter Milan)
Another player just returning from international duty, Perisic found himself on the losing side for Croatia in the World Cup Final against France.
Zlatko Dalić’s men defied modest expectations pre-tournament and toiled their way through to the showpiece event in Russia, winning 2/3 knockout games via a penalty shootout.
Perisic was one of the standout players for his national team during the tournament and even scored in the final, smashing home arguably the goal of the game to equalise in the first half.
At club level he makes a living in Italy, playing for Inter Milan in Serie A. Since joining the club in 2015, the 29-year-old has gone onto make 107 appearances for the Nerazzurri, scoring an impressive 29 goals.
He is an aggressive and versatile midfielder predominantly deployed on the left, but equally dangerous playing on the right or just behind the striker through the middle of the pitch.
Manchester United were heavily linked with a move for the Croatian star last summer, ultimately failing to force through a deal. After a stellar World Cup display demand for Perisic services has only increased and once again Old Trafford is being touted as his possible next destination.
Jose Mourinho has a plethora of attacking options already at the club, including Marcus Rashford, Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard, but none provide the team with natural width.
Even Sanchez, who once operated as an out and out right winger for both Barcelona and Udinese earlier in his career, now favours a position on the left where he can cut inside to affect the game.
Ivan Perisic would be a signing to remind supporters of the great wide men to play for the club over the years – such as David Beckham and Ryan Giggs – plus he would add a new dimension to Mourinho’s side which could potentially turn them into a more potent attacking force.
