Arsenal: This transfer window will benefit Granit Xhaka massively
By Kian Long
Arsenal have already made five additions, but a sixth could be on the cards.
Arsenal have had a busy transfer window, the first under new manager Unai Emery. While many criticize the names they’ve signed, it’s important we remember how all dire positions have now been strengthened.
There is a lot of talk about how the new signings will settle in, but the business hasn’t even ended yet. The Gunners are reportedly in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Yann Sommer from Borussia Monchengladbach.
That said, this summer points positively in the direction of one man…
It’s your time to shine, Granit.
Granit Xhaka will be licking his lips at these signings. Three in particular.
If the signing of Sommer does take place, he will feel a lot more at home. Sommer was one of his best friends during their shared time at Gladbach, I’m sure we can all remember…
It’s this type of chemistry which could really bring Xhaka out of his shell, while also helping Sommer adapt to North London life.
They will also be helped by Stephan Lichtsteiner’s appointment. The full back has captained both players on the international level, with Xhaka the heir to his throne.
If he can bring his leadership qualities with him to Arsenal, this will allow Xhaka to act as second in command, and raise his captaincy profile for the future.
Lucas Torreira is another signing who will bizarrely benefit the Swiss midfielder. No, they won’t act as competitors, more like helping hands.
Torreira will take away the defensive onus from Xhaka, freeing him of all the ridicule. He will now flourish in his most effective role, which involves dictation of midfield play.
An almost perfect window by Arsenal.

This transfer window has been both exciting for the fans, and for analysts.
The Gunners are often slated for brushing aside their issues and focusing too much on the ‘luxury players’. But now they have both system players, as well as flair-driven superstars such as Mesut Ozil.
They have achieved a solid defense, along with a balanced midfield and the always fiery attack has remained the same.
Perhaps Arsenal should be looking at their winger situation, but it would be hard to fault the club should they not.
A player such as Hirving Lozano would be the ideal last signing, as the Mexican would bring an abundance of pace and the ability to cut inside when necessary.
