Malcom is heading to Barcelona but it’s been an interesting journey.

It was almost a certainty that Malcom was leaving Bordeaux this summer, and Roma looked to be the club that secured the player. Nobody expected him to join Barcelona, though.

Barcelona signed Malcom from Bordeaux for a fee of €41m. With this move, Barcelona now have 2 of the top 5 most valuable U21 players in the world.

Barcelona got the man they wanted and have a secure future with the young talent. Though many people are questioning the integrity of both sides for the signing.

Malcom had been a heavily pursued player as of late, with possible moves linked to: Everton, Fulham, and Inter. The club then agreed to sell to Roma for €40m.

Bordeaux gave Malcom the permission to fly to Rome to meet the team and undergo his physical. With a large number of Roma fans gathered at the airport to greet the player on arrival, it was clear they were excited.

That’s when Barcelona decided to show up. The club swooped in with a last second outbid for the Brazilian, and it was enough.

Bordeaux backed out of the formerly agreed deal with Roma and accepted the price tag from Barca. Roma had already announced the signing on their Twitter.

Obviously fans are going to be upset, they went from singing a top young talent to nothing almost instantly. Business is business though so you can’t fault the clubs too much, though I see where they’re coming from.

More from FC Barcelona

A deal was agreed upon and most feel you should have to go through with it; but the allure of Barcelona is sometimes too much for young players and clubs to ignore.

Malcom the player.

The 21 year old winger racked up countless highlights scoring 12 goals and adding 7 assists in 32 appearances. He was a lone bright spot on a struggling Ligue 1 side.

His pace off the wing and ball striking ability make him a tough matchup for any opposing defender.

Though where he fits in the lineup for the cup coming season remains to be seen. Barcelona have a plethora of top level attackers so finding a spot for Malcom, however talented he may be, will be tough.

Next: Fulham need to go all out for Real Sociedad striker

What do you make of the situation? Should Bordeaux have sold to Roma? Where will Malcom slot into Barca’s lineup? Let me know in the comments.
