Pre-season is the perfect time for youngsters to impress, and these two Arsenal prodigies haven’t wasted their chances.

Arsenal have been known to produce some quality young players throughout the years. And this looks to remain the same under new boss Unai Emery.

Pre-season is by no means the best time to judge players, but for some, it is the first chance. The Gunners have taken on both Boreham Wood and Atletico Madrid so far, undeniably contrasting teams.

However, two stars have impressed on both occasions, and those are Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Emile Smith Rowe.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Of course, we all knew about Maitland-Niles before pre-season. In Arsene Wenger’s closing season, it was the young Englishman who took the spotlight. Impressive performances in the Europa League and the Premier League made him a real fan favorite.

The midfielder will look to take advantage of Emery’s coaching, and the departure of Jack Wilshere may lead to more game time for him.

So far in pre-season, he has reminded us why he is loved in North London. His composure on the ball and versatility is rare for a player of his age, the Arsenal fans seem to admire him…

He’s not quite Andrea Pirlo, but his penalty did a pretty good job at convincing us.

Emile Smith Rowe

Smith Rowe is one who has burst on to the scene, however if you’re a follower of Arsenal youth football, you’ll know all about him.

The attacking midfielder prides himself on his attacking quality, which we witnessed against Atletico Madrid.

He scored Arsenal’s only goal in the ninety minutes, a well-hit strike into the top corner following some impressive footwork.

His fascinating footwork gets all the plaudits, and rightly so, but he is also able to get the best out of his team-mates.

Keep an eye out for him in pre-season, and you’ll see why Arsenal fans are hyped about his potential.

It might take a little while to recognize the Pele comparisons, though.
