Theo Hernandez has been heavily linked with a loan transfer to Real Sociedad in the past few week. There is an updated build-up regarding the potential move.

Real Madrid signed Theo Hernandez from Atletico Madrid last season. The left back stood out for Alaves on loan in their La Liga campaign after being promoted from the Segunda Division. Real Madrid’s new policy of building a new squad welcomed in another young talent- Theo.

The left back has not been able to make a huge number of appearances for Los Blancos. The 20 year old has been behind Marcelo in the pecking order. At times, Nacho would be preferred due to his amazing versatility and experience. Theo’s playing time was hence limited.

The France U20 international has grown frustrated with spending long periods on the bench. He wants to develop his skill in order to push up in the roster and will be loaned out. Juventus and Real Sociedad are the two clubs interested.

It’s a game of competition

More from Real Madrid

The Whites are not too keen on sending Theo to Italy because of Alex Sandro’s dominative presence in Turin. Hence, Real Sociedad seems to be a great destination for him. The club based out of San Sebastian is optimistic about having the 20 year old at their disposal.

He will provide competition to Kevin Rodrigues and due to his exposure to world class players like Marcelo, he might also push the Sociedad left back out of favour.

With an eye for goal and a player who is born with an attacker’s mentality and solid defensive skills, Theo Hernandez just needs time to develop into one of the world’s best in his position.

The 20 year old joined the 13 time European champions in the summer of 2017. That window included a lot of investments in budding talent and Theo was one of those whose services were brought by the club. He signed a six year contract with the club.

In his first season at the Santiago Bernabeu, Theo’s playing time was limited to just 1648 minutes as per Transfer Markt. Those minutes were divided over 23 appearances. In the process, Theo also provided 3 assists.

Real Madrid and Theo Hernandez, will hope that the young left back’s talent gets the right kind of disclosure at the Anoeta. The news is expected to be made official in the coming week.

Real Madrid jetted off to the United States for pre-season over the last weekend and Theo did travel with the squad.

However, an updated approach with Real Madrid offering Sociedad an option to buy the player after a year has re-fueled interest.

He is thought to have said his final goodbyes to the squad according to reports and might be back in Spain any time now.
