3. Morata

Sarri made an important decision during preseason that could drastically change the outcome of his season. He announced to the press that he would be backing Alvaro Morata as a striker, putting his full faith in a revival for the Spaniard.

Morata struggled under Conte last season. He scored just 11 goals total in his 31 league appearances, which is simply not enough for a striker at an elite club.

Many thought that Morata would be on his way out, with the Serie A being the likely destination. The statement by Sarri was reassuring, though, as he hopes that Morata can turn around his bad form.

This is great news for Chelsea. It means they do not need to go out and spend more money, and it also gives them another option to use up top.

With Giroud and Batshuayi also capable options up top, Chelsea are giving themselves a lot of wiggle room moving forward. Three options at striker alone mean they can switch between the players depending on the opposition’s weaknesses.

If anything, having three strikers fighting for one spot will only bring out the best in each attacker. Impressing at every opportunity will be a key to staying in the starting line up.

Morata will need to prove his worth to the club still, though. He cannot expect to underperform and still have a starting spot just because Sarri has faith in him.

A failure to produce will only mean knocking Morata further down the pecking order. If he can find similar form to his Juventus days, then Sarri will be hailed as a genius and Morata will be back to grabbing positive headlines.
