Last season, Manchester City took the Premier League by storm, winning the league by the largest margin ever seen and reaching 100 points. Here are five reasons why City will repeat as champions.

In the 2017/18 season, Manchester City had the best Premier League season ever.

Ever.

Forget how it must have felt to be a City fan last season. For football fans all over the world, it was a joy and a pleasure to watch the way Manchester City played and subsequently dominated on the pitch. A team that in the years prior shown they were close to glory once more, finally broke through and did so in the most emphatic of fashions.

This season, Pep Guardiola and the Sky Blues look to retain their throne as Champions of England while at the same time, aiming to conquer Europe.

Fans of the rest of the Premier League’s teams know that City are the clear title favorites but will hope to see the Mancunians not be able to walk through the league with ease as they did last season.

It is extremely important to note that repeating as champions in a league as difficult and as competitive as the Premier League is very difficult. At the same time, we’ve never seen a team quite like this Manchester City squad. We take a look at five key components that will lead Manchester City to becoming repeat champions.

1. Kevin De Bruyne

Kevin De Bruyne is the complete midfielder that every manager dreams of having in their squad. He can pass, defend, score, etc. De Bruyne just does it all. Already perhaps the best all around player in the Premier League, KDB continues to push himself into the Ballon D’or conversation.

Last season on several occasions, we saw De Bruyne complete what looked to be impossible passes that often times lead to either goals or goal scoring opportunities for City. It is these often seen strokes of pure genius where De Bruyne is appreciated the most by both his manager and fans.

At the same time, De Bruyne doesn’t allow his opposition to forget that he is a constant goal scoring threat that displays elite accuracy and power on his shots. One goal in particular that comes to mind is that absolute cracker of a shot netted by the Belgian against Chelsea that wound up being the only goal in a game that solidified City as the team to beat in the league.

What truly makes De Bruyne so dangerous is his ability to think and make decisions at an insanely fast speed. Time after time we saw Manchester City counter attacks lead by De Bruyne dribbling rapidly up the middle of the pitch. It is in these moments where De Bruyne quickly analyzes every option he has.

In a matter of seconds, De Bruyne finds the best option that could lead to a chance at goal, sometimes, the option being to keep it himself. This is the dilemma defenders face with De Bruyne as it is a tall task to try and predict just what the midfielder is going to do.

De Bruyne’s brilliance will surely be on display again throughout the upcoming season.
