Manchester United took on Leicester City last night in their Premier League opener and merged as victorious.

The opening day of a new Premier League season is always bound to produce nerves. This was the case last night, although Manchester United pushed those nerves aside, as Paul Pogba fired home from the spot early on.

This put them in a comfortable position throughout the rest of the match, and even more so when Luke Shaw tapped home in an unorthodox manner in the second half.

Jamie Vardy soon found the net after coming on, keeping up his record against the big six in impressive fashion. They all count!

There were negatives to be drawn, despite the result being positive. That said, I have decided to match the scoreline in giving two positives and one negative. Genius, I know.

1. No love lost between Shaw and Mourinho

Shaw got the start, which would have been nerve-wracking for him. Not only did he appear to lose the trust of his manager, but also the fans at one point last season.

However, he didn’t let this get to him. His goal was actually pretty impressive; the touch was questionable but it worked, and he slotted in to the far corner impressively.

The most unlikely goal-scorer was followed by the most unlikely Mourinho celebration. Don’t get me wrong, Mourinho does love to remind the opposition whenever his side scores, but his celebration following Shaw’s goal was something else.

This could hint that Shaw will play a big part in this season, and if the backing from his once worst enemy continues, then who’s to say he won’t have a massive season?
