Tottenham player ratings at Newcastle: Spurs survive and advance
Mousa Dembele-7
Dembele may not be with Tottenham past this season, but his contributions in this match were absolutely critical. His ability to step right into the midfield and maintain possession in tight spaces helped Pochettino’s squad see out this match.
This might be the blueprint for Dembele’s involvement for Spurs this season. At his age, he seems to struggle to play a full 90 minutes. Pochettino might opt to use him as a super sub instead. Expect the Belgian to be a key figure for Tottenham in their biggest matches.
Son Heung-Min-5
The Korean star might have feel a bit unfortunate not to have gotten more playing time in this match. After all, he’ll be off to the Asian Games soon. Many expected Pochettino to hand him the start against Newcastle while he still had the opportunity.
Instead he only entered the match in the 80th minute. That didn’t give him a ton of time to make an impact, but he really didn’t accomplish anything in his 15 minutes or so. Son ran hard, but couldn’t make anything happen. It was a forgettable day for him.
Luke Amos-Inc.
Full congratulations to the young Englishman for making his Premier League debut. He owes a debt to Eric Dier’s slight knock for making it happen. Fernando Llorente was set to come in before Dier limped off.
He still wasn’t on the pitch to actually do anything. He’ll never forget today though. Amos will keep fighting to stay in the squad in the coming weeks.
