Arsenal lost in disappointing fashion, but how did the players fare in their match against champions Manchester City?

It was never going to be easy for Arsenal. A completely shifted squad, with a new man at the helm and a different group of backroom staff. All of this combined with playing the champions, you can see why Arsenal were far off favorites.

It was an open start to the game, but once Raheem Sterling fired home, things began to look downhill for the Gunners.

The players just looked lethargic. While this was always going to be the case, the fans would have felt a lot better about the result should commitment have been shown.

There were two offside goals scored, but that’s about the only mere consolation Arsenal can take from this game. Still, there’s plenty of time to improve for the season – but hard work is an absolute must.

I don’t think this game will be a tale of Arsenal’s season, and I wouldn’t write off their chances against Chelsea either. It’s important to look at the bigger picture, I mean hey, 2-0 is better than 3-0.

Anyway, without further ramblings, how did the players do in this match?

Petr Cech – 6/10

He could have done better for Sterling’s goal, but at the same time he made a few important saves. There was one double save in particular, denying Riyad Mahrez from the free kick and then Aymeric Laporte on the follow up.

I was surprised to see Petr Cech starting this match, as I thought new signing Bernd Leno would get the nod. That said, the Czech international did earn his spot after a fine pre-season.
