Joshua Kimmich – 9/10

The German wonder kid had a spectacular night against Eintracht Frankfurt. It has truly been a tall order to fill in the right-back position for Philipp Lahm after his retirement, as it would be difficult for anyone, but Kimmich has been showing loads of potential throughout his career at Bayern.

The youngster made excellent work of remaining largely consistent performance-wise throughout the match. In terms of defense, he was mostly sound, making a couple of successful tackles and a clearance. His biggest cobtribution toward the match was in that peach of a cross to the head of Robert Lewandowski, breaking the deadlock 20 minutes in.

Mats Hummels – 7/10

Nothing too special from Mats Hummels on the day. However, that could be partially attributed toward the defensive unit as a whole doing well ward off Eintracht Frankfurt attacking plays. Individually, he did make some well-timed defensive contributions including a tackle, an interception, a blocked shot, and some clearances.

However, one stain on his performance on the night was a terribly mistimed tackle on a Frankfurt breakaway. Quite frankly, he was lucky the referee didn’t show him red for the challenge.

Niklas Sule – 7.5/10

Sule had a relatively sound day defensively similar to Hummels. However, Niklas Sule perhaps gets slightly higher marks than his center-back compatriot since he avoided any card infractions from the ref.

Niklas Sule’s defensive stats also looked fairly sound. The big German made good work of ushering away pressure from the rest of the back line and Manuel Neuer’s goal when needed, and intercepting a couple of Frankfurt’s plays.

David Alaba – 6.5/10

Not the best performance for the Austrian on the day. Thankfully however, he also did nothing offensively detrimental to put his defense in any danger either. David Alaba unfortunately did not show much productivity in his offensive play when trying to give width to the game.

A few errant and misplaced crosses unfortunately brought his game down. Alaba, however, was unlucky to get injured late in the match and leave Bayern Munich a man down the rest of the game. Here’s to a speedy recovery for the first choice left-back.
