La Liga has dropped some brilliant news for its Asian fans…
Spain’s La Liga is one of the world’s biggest likes. The Iberian nation’s top flight football league boasts some of the world’s best teams in Real Madrid and Barcelona. There are also major prospects like Atletico Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla and Real Betis that are present in the league.
The viewers of the event in the Indian subcontinent suffered a major setback when just one week until the start of the new season, there was no official broadcaster. Since the last three seasons, Sony Television Networks (SET) had been showing the Spanish league. The deal between two seasons cost an estimated $32 million.

However, SET chose to not renovate their contract with La Liga, thereby leaving a void among Indian football fans. On Tuesday, La Liga made a massive announcement about tying up with Facebook for the broadcast of the next three seasons. It will be a free to air stream provided by Facebook and will air all the 380 matches of the season.
It seemed that Facebook just had to react after Amazon purchased the Premier League’s rights from 2019. Those in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Maldives, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan will have access to the free service. The free to air is a budding initiative started by Facebook.
It started with the MLB games from 2017 and now Eleven Sports- the official Serie A and La Liga broadcaster in the United Kingdom- also agreed to stream one game each from both the leagues every week. The telecast on Facebook will include pre and post-match analytics from Joe Morrison while Michel Salgado and Luis Garcia will also be on the La Liga panel.
Javier Tebas, the La Liga president was jubilant about the deal and said,
"”We are delighted to form a team with Facebook and to bring La Liga fans on the Indian subcontinent closer to the action. La Liga is a reference point in world football and (now a large) number of pepole can watch games live free through Facebook.”"
This comes as great news for those present in the Indian subcontinent. Who do you think will claim the La Liga crown in 2018/19?
