5. Giovanni Simeone

The first new entrant into the Capocannoniere race will be Giovanni Simeone. The son of Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, had the best season of his career last year. He managed to find the back of the net 14 times despite playing for a Fiorentina team that tied for last in scoring among the top 10 teams in the league table.

Fiorentina has added creative options on the wing and in the midfield by bringing in Marko Pjaca, Kevin Mirallas, and Gerson this summer. They can also reasonably expect some improvement from many of the players from last year’s squad.

8 of their 9 returning players who play up front or in the midfield are 26 or younger and many of them saw their first significant action in Serie A last season. The progression of these players, including Simeone, along with the additions made this summer should lead to an increase in scoring from Fiorentina this year and with it, the first 20 goal season of Simeone’s career.
