Manchester City have no plans to sign Claudio Marchisio, who was recently released by Juventus.
Claudio Marchisio is a veteran, but he still has the same technical ability he’s always possessed. Age doesn’t hinder technical ability, with Manchester City’s very own David Silva being a massive example of that.
This is why many City fans will have been licking their lips to see Marchisio had been released by Juventus, with maybe a free transfer in sight. However, according to Goal, Pep Guardiola has no plans to sign him to a contract.
He would have been the ideal Kevin De Bruyne cover.

Kevin De Bruyne is rumored to be out for up to 3 months, which is obviously terrible news for Pep Guaridola and company. He is City’s most talented and influential player, so his absence will indeed be felt.
Marchisio is by no means a long-term option, ageing at 32 years old currently. However, he has the ability to join this City side and take over from De Bruyne, spraying passes left, right and centre. He has done this throughout his career, so even given the circumstances, he could have done this for the English champions.
But it’s not a bad thing that City have brushed aside the rumors, in fact it’s positive to see. Here’s why…
It will open the gates for Bernardo Silva.
Bernardo Silva has yet to nail himself a solid place in the first team. He featured a lot for City last season, but many of those appearances came from the bench. Towards the end of the season though, he really impressed, so this season was always bound to be fruitful for him.
He will be helped by the injury of De Bruyne, albeit there’s a lot of pressure on him. Fans won’t expect him to be as good as the Belgian, but having shown it for AS Monaco and the Portugal national team, he has what it takes.
Like De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva is a creative player who loves to bring his team forward from midfield. Everything he does excites the fans, as he’s able to come up with a wide array of impressive passes.
Not only that – he’s also incredibly versatile. As we saw at times last season, he has a rocket of a shot on him. Again, similarities can be drawn to De Bruyne in that department.
There seems to be immense trust in Bernardo Silva, so he will look to repay this trust. Do you think City are right to brush aside the Claudio Marchisio situation?
