LW: Douglas Costa 6/10

Douglas Costa looked good early on, but couldn’t keep the pressure on for Juve. His runs early in the game looked threatening. He also sent in a cross that should’ve created a penalty. That was most of his influence though and he tailed off enough after his initial attacks that he was eventually taken off. Today was Costa’s first real match since the World Cup and it showed.

ST: Cristiano Ronaldo 7.5/10

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t set the world on fire in his Juve debut as many had hoped. However, it wasn’t the disappointment some will try to paint it as. He nearly scored with a nice curling effort. He completed 90% of his passes, looked good on the break, and created 2 chances with his passing.

He didn’t come up with the debut goal I’m sure he’d have loved to score, but he kept the Chievo defense on its heels on game and came extremely close to opening his Juve account on 2 separate occasions. It probably wasn’t the debut he was hoping for, but Juve can expect those shots to find the back of the net throughout the season.

RW: Juan Cuadrado 4.5/10

If you weren’t paying close attention to the game it would’ve been easy to forget that Juan Cuadrado had played today. Outside of one or two ugly shots from the top of the box he didn’t really do too much memorable. He wasn’t his usual threat on the break and didn’t create much in attack.

He also wasn’t much help defensively as Juve got beaten his side of the pitch to create both goals. On the first, he gave Giaccherini far too much space to get a cross in. Much like Costa he looked the part of a player that hadn’t seen real competition in over a month. I expect to see better performances as the season progresses.
