Juventus player ratings vs Chievo Verona: Ronaldo scoreless, Bernardeschi flawless
By John Vaccaro
Federico Bernardeschi 9.5/10
Can you really ask for more from a substitute? He brought great energy to the squad when he came on. He sent in the corner that led to the equalizer and scored the winner. Federico Bernardeschi looked fantastic today and if he keeps playing like he did today he will command regular starts for this team.
Mario Mandzukic 6.5/10

Mario Mandzukic is always a boost for Juve when he’s on the pitch. He never stops running and his towering presence is an issue for opposing defenses. He demonstrated that pretty clearly on his headed goal even though it didn’t end up counting. I thought he should have started today and Juan Cuadrado’s performance didn’t do anything to convince me I was wrong. Expect to see Mandzukic start against Lazio next weekend.
Emre Can: Inc.
Emre Can came on in the 84th minute, so most of his time on the pitch consisted of the medical staff tending to Sorrentino. It was a smart move to get his feet wet today with a lead and in a situation where he just needed to focus on defense. Expect to see his next few appearances come as a substitute as Allegri slowly works him into the squad.
Massimiliano Allegri 6.5/10
I think Allegri made a couple of costly mistakes today. First of all, I don’t think the 4-2-3-1 is the right formation for this Juventus team, but he seems unwilling to change from it unless forced by injuries or suspensions. Second, Mandzukic should’ve started today. Juventus saw one of its leaders leave yesterday and looked sluggish today. That’s not an issue you usually need to worry about from Mandzukic. The guy just never stops. He would’ve provided Juventus with a boost right away and could’ve helped bring out a better performance from the squad. Allegri gets credit for identifying Mandzukic and Bernardeschi as the proper subs.
He gets a 5 for the start, but an 8 for his adjustments in the last 40 minutes so we’ll split the difference and give him a 6.5.
