Manchester United: Jose Mourinho asks for French star to be sold
By Kian Long
Jose Mourinho has reportedly made yet another questionable decision at Manchester United…
Jose Mourinho is no stranger to making rash decisions, but he may have taken things too far this time round. The Portuguese boss was put in charge of Manchester United to restore some order, after the frailties which David Moyes and Louis van Gaal left behind.
He is known for having tiffs with his players, the most recent of those being Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Luke Shaw. While the former and the latter look to have been resolved, the Portuguese boss isn’t so sure on Martial. According to the Daily Star, he has asked the United board to sell Martial.
But… Why?

Anthony Martial is undeniably a true talent, it’s just a case of bringing that talent to the surface. He has shown many signs of promise, both at AS Monaco and at Manchester United. Although his last few seasons have been questionable, all it takes is good coaching in order to make him a star.
In conflicting reports from The Sun, the Frenchman is willing to stay at Old Trafford in order to fight for his place. This is why it’s so confusing to see Mourinho make such a rash decision – especially given the fact Martial has the talent to be a first team regular.
He will only have more drive to achieve at the top level given his absence from this year’s World Cup, a competition which he watched his country win. This is embarrassing for any player, but it can also act as an immense motivator.
He may be better off elsewhere.
While the best option for United is to keep him and coach him properly, Martial may benefit from a move abroad. He is far too good to be a bench player, let alone a bench player receiving the treatment he is getting.
The thing which is most appealing about Martial is his footwork. Time after time, he is able to beat his opposing number, mainly on the flanks, and drive his team forward. Often he has dumbfounded his opposition and made them look nothing short of silly. This is the kind of play which gets fans on their feet, something which United need right now.
Wherever he ends up playing this season, that team can guarantee themselves a star. A star who is looking to excel, a common theme which comes with leaving Mourinho.
Do you think Manchester United should grant Mourinho’s request by selling Anthony Martial?
