Striker: Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t get the goal he was looking for in his debut, but he still played well in his first Juve appearance. He created a few good chances and would’ve opened his Juve account if not for a good save by Stefano Sorrentino. It wasn’t quite the debut he’d have hoped for, but he remained a threat throughout the 90 minutes.

Ronaldo will be guaranteed a starting spot with Juve all year. He’ll be more talented than anybody Juve’s Serie A opponents can offer. It’s an advantage Juve won’t be looking to give up that advantage in their big games. Ronaldo will certainly start against Lazio and both him and Juve will be hoping he gets his first goal with the team in his home debut.

Goalkeeper: Wojciech Szczesny

Szczesny got the start in the season opener, but I think it should be Mattia Perin making his debut in the home opener. Szczesny had no impact on the opening match against Chievo. He allowed two goals that he didn’t have much chance of saving and didn’t make any saves. His contribution to the game basically consisted of his presence.

While I believe Perin should get the start, Juve will likely feel more comfortable sticking with the veteran. At some point Juve needs to start grooming Perin as he is their future. However, Juve will probably have more faith in Szczesny’s experience.

I don’t think Szczesny will hold onto this job for long, but I do expect Juventus to choose him for this big early season game.
