Arsenal picked up their first three points of the season against West Ham United, but how did the players fare?
It was a nervy game for Arsenal. They actually started the game on the back-foot as West Ham opened the scoring in the first half. It was a defensive calamity, perhaps inevitably, which gifted the Hammers their goal.
However, Arsenal never looked down and out. It didn’t take them long to find their goal, as Nacho Monreal got the equalizer. Then, in the second half, Arsenal were gifted a goal themselves as Issa Diop scored an own goal. Danny Welbeck of all people wrapped up the win in the closing minutes.
There were a lot more positives to take in this match. The main one of those is the fact that Arsenal picked up three points for the first time this season. Not only that, but a number of surprise players impressed in this match.
They got the win in true Arsenal style – by leaving all the fans on the edge of their seats. While it’s not something Emery will look to repeat, picking up three points will come as a huge sigh of relief and it will set them up nicely on their easy run.
So, how did the players fare as Unai Emery picked up his first win as Arsenal boss?
GK: Petr Cech – 6/10
Cech was okay. He was by no means disastrous, although he could have done a lot better for Arnautovic’s goal. He should definitely be working on his distribution in training, especially as Emery looks to adopt a more composed style from the back.
