Manchester United winger Anthony Martial is prepared to stay at the club after being encouraged by the club’s refusal to sell him.

Martial’s agent Philippe Lamboley dropped a bombshell in June that his client wanted to leave Manchester United after falling out of favor under Jose Mourinho. The Frenchman went AWOL during United’s preseason tour in America, further straining his relationship with his manager. Martial was fined two weeks’ wages by the club for his failure to return to training following the birth of his child.

The 22 year old returned to the starting lineup for United last weekend against Brighton, but was taken off at the hour mark after a disappointing performance.

More from Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Sevilla have all shown an interest in signing him this summer. But Manchester United are determined to keep the highly rated winger and have knocked back all inquiries so far. United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly happy to let Martial depart, as he does not want to keep an unhappy player at the club.

But according to the Telegraph, the winger is now set to stay at Old Trafford after being heartened by the club’s refusal to sell him. Martial has less than an year remaining on his United contract, but the club have an option to extend his deal by another year.

Despite all his issues at United, there is no doubt that Martial is still an exceptional talent. It has been a difficult week for United following their shock defeat to Brighton on Sunday. Rumors of discontent among the squad have been ever increasing and doubts over the futures of Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba have dominated headlines.

The Red Devils are six points behind league leaders Liverpool and defeat to Spurs could prove to be disastrous. Anthony Martial scored the winner the last time United hosted Tottenham, and a repeat performance would go a long way in helping him repair his relationship with the United faithful.
