Real Madrid beat Girona in the season’s first away trip by a 4-1 margin. The Whites are now table toppers, but let’s see how their players did in the match at the Montilivi.

Real Madrid took a trip to Girona hoping to get all the three points in the Estadio Montilivi, a stadium where they lost last time out. Madrid’s youth academy graduate Borja Garcia gave the local team the lead within twenty minutes of kick off. Penalties from Sergio Ramos and Karim Benzema put Real Madrid on the way to three points with Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema adding two more to beat Catalonia’s minnows.

It was a very convincing performance from the Whites who showed great mental strength in coming from a goal down. Several players stood out in the victory on Sunday night and we rate and slate the Madrid players ahead of their third league fixture against Leganes.

Goalkeeper: Keylor Navas – 9/10

A lot of people including myself thought that Thibaut Courtois would start this fixture. However, his Costa Rican colleague was given the nod for a third competitive game running, and boy, did he impress! Navas could not do anything to stop Girona’s sole goal but did a tremendous job in the rest of the game.

Two superb saves to deny the Girona attackers what looked like clear goals were his highlight. He also came rushing out of the box to make a clearance which would have otherwise put Portu in a one on one situation with him. Navas had far from a comfortable night and delivered a fabulous performance, which did nothing but complicate Julen Lopetegui’s selection headache between the sticks.
