2. No hangover for Hugo

Pochettino raised a few eyebrows with his leniency shown towards Hugo Lloris. After captaining his country to World Cup glory in Russia, spending Thursday night confined in a cell must have been, quite literally, a sobering experience.

However, not only did Hugo retain his place for last night’s game but also the captain’s strap. The Frenchman would have been desperate to repay the loyalty shown the manager and well aware that the spot light was firmly on him in the early goings.

Despite Danny Rose’s best efforts to thwart the keeper and red shirts swarming around him for Fred inswingers, Hugo stood tall and made it to the break without conceding.

His match defining moment came in the second half just after Tottenham had taken the lead. Romelu Lukaku found space in the box and drilled a shot across Lloris who threw out a tentacle to push it away from danger. The save showed he is still one of the best in the business and absolved him from any wrongdoing in the eyes of all Spurs fans.

All in all it was the perfect night for Hugo, with a clean sheet and countless other talking points to aim the spotlight elsewhere.

3. Kane can have his best season yet

After a scoreless 335 minutes at Old Trafford, Kane finally broke his duck. The goal came on 50 minutes after the striker pulled away from Phil Jones to guide the ball across David De Gea and into the top bin.

Before Kane found the net against Fulham last weekend the striker had never scored a Premier League goal in August. Kane now has two goals on the board which can be viewed as a bonus as he heads into September.

Kane has always increased his tally season upon season, reaching a career best of 30 league goals last campaign. He loves a challenge and will relish the opportunity to go one or two better this year to ensure he recaptures the Golden Boot.
