Tottenham full-back Danny Rose has revealed that he expects to remain in North London until the end of the season, after being linked with a move to PSG.
Rose has only started one game for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, with Ben Davies occupying the left-back spot during the first two matches of the new campaign.
The 28-year-old defender has been a key part of Tottenham’s success over the last few years under the Argentine coach, but it appears that he now has a fight on his hands to re-emerge as a regular fixture in the team.
However, he did manage to push Davies on to the bench against Manchester United on Monday and his performance during the 3-0 win at Old Trafford would have done his chances of retaining his place going forward no harm at all.
According to The Telegraph, Rose has been linked with loan moves to PSG and Marseille recently, but with the European transfer window set to close on Friday, it now seems likely he will be staying put.
The English defender spent the summer in Russia serving his country at the World Cup and he played his part as Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions made it through to the semifinals of the competition.
Although he has not managed to play as regularly as he would have liked in 2018 at club level so far, there is still no doubting the fullback’s immense talent and Tottenham could ill-afford to lose a player of his quality.
As Goal reports, Rose believes that his display against the Red Devils at the start of the week holds him in good stead to secure more regular playing time, as he told reporters: “Me and the manager have had a conversation over the phone, as well as two one-hour meetings over the last couple of weeks.
“We’re both aware of the situation. Monday was massive for me that, even though there is speculation, he still trusts and believes in me to put me into such a massive game, a game where he didn’t need to change anything. ”
Before that, he revealed that he does not expect to leave the club before Friday, insisting that he has paid little attention to reports linking him with a move away from Wembley stadium.
“If I’m here past Friday, which I’m expecting to be, which will be great, I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve at the end of the season,” said Rose. “I’m good. I’m not listening to the speculation about my future.”
With three wins out of three Tottenham have staked an early claim as frontrunners for the Premier League title this year, impressing with their fluid, attacking style and well-organised set-up defensively.
The competition between Danny Rose and Ben Davies is healthy and a testament to the impressive squad depth Pochettino has at his disposal.
The former still has a huge part to play for the Lily Whites and if Spurs are going to realistically challenge for trophies come May, then his unique attributes will be vital in propelling the team towards new found glory.
