Michel Platini questions Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus
By Kian Long
Cristiano Ronaldo shocked the world when he joined Juventus from Real Madrid, but the transfer has received quite the mixed reaction.
Many professionals of the game have made their thoughts known on Cristiano Ronaldo’s situation. At the age of 33 years old, he wanted to embark on a new adventure and to do that, he traveled to Turin, the footballing capital of Italy. He’s faced the mix start to life in black and white, but in both matches he’s impressed. He will hope to get his first goal when his side face Parma on Saturday.
Speaking with L’Equipe, the former Juventus midfielder Michel Platini was quick to make his thoughts known. His thoughts, brought to us by Goal, are quite controversial…
"“I think it’s odd that at 33 years of age [Ronaldo]’s left ‘his’ Real Madrid, with whom he has won three Champions Leagues in a row, to try a new adventure. When I was 32 lots of teams wanted me, but I retired because I was tired.” – Michel Platini"

Let’s get one thing straight – Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t get tired. This is the guy who has stole the show in front of millions of supporters after playing a whole 120 minutes of football against his side’s rivals. He thrives on the feeling.
As football has progressed, players are beginning to reach new ages before they deteriorate. Whether this be down to a heavier emphasis on nutrition, or more tailored training drills, it’s good to see. I think that as a well-respected legend of the game, you should be celebrating this change, and not looking at things historically.
However, the point in which Platini raised about his decision to leave Madrid is interesting. Real Madrid are hitting some of their best ever form, and they only look to be getting better. For Ronaldo, who was an important figurehead to their improvement, to leave is rather bizarre.
But on the other hand, it’s down to the player’s personal goals. You could give him the planet and he would strive for the universe; it’s this kind of personality which has made him a contender for the greatest of all time. Who knows what was going on behind closed doors?
Obviously, my thoughts aren’t the be-all or end-all of the debate. I would love to hear what you think of Platini’s comments. Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below and let’s discuss!
