Tottenham August review: the Dele challenge, a drunk captain, and nine points
A drunk captain
Hugo Lloris was proudly welcomed back to Hotspur Way this month as a World Cup winning captain. But the afterglow of the feat has somewhat faded since he was arrested in the early hours of last Friday morning for a drink driving offense.
Hugo spent some time in a cell before releasing a statement to ‘wholeheartedly apologize’ to his family, the club, and the fans. Lloris, however, retained his place and the captain’s strap and put in a fine performance in Spurs’ win at Old Trafford.
Tottenham have received criticism for the leniency shown towards their captain. They are dealing with the matter internally and will likely just issue the keeper with a fine.
It does seem bizarrely out of character for the clean-cut family man. But after Gareth Barry and Johnny Evans robbed a taxi last season, and now this, who knows what could be next – James Milner facing a drug trafficking charge?
Nine points for Tottenham
Oh, and let’s not forget, despite all the drama Spurs managed to register three wins out of three. Credit to Mauricio for never letting off field matters get in the way.
Tottenham have shown steady improvement thus far; scraping passed Newcastle on the opening weekend, before a more convincing performance against Fulham, and a stunning win at Old Trafford.
Lucas Moura has been the star player for Spurs; while, Mousa Dembele has proven he still has a part to play, and Harry Kane broke his August duck, twice!
Spurs currently sit joint top with three other clubs. The surprise package out of those is Watford who Tottenham will kick off their September schedule against this Sunday.
