There has been no recent update on Aaron Ramsey’s contract situation, but that may be a good thing for Arsenal.

If Arsenal learnt anything from the Alexis Sanchez saga last season, it’s that media attention isn’t always a good thing. The Chilean was clearly running down his Arsenal contract, and the attention from outlets just made him even more cocky. Mesut Ozil, who eventually ended up staying, didn’t receive even half of the recognition.

The last update we had on Aaron Ramsey was that the Welshman will make the board wait until January before he considers a new contract. If no moves have been made, this could make Arsenal consider meeting his wage demands – which is up there with the club’s top earners.

And you can’t say he doesn’t deserve it. The top players should be highest on the pay-roll, and Ramsey is without a doubt one of the best North London has to offer. He is integral to their system, even more so now that Unai Emery has taken charge.

Ramsey’s contract runs until the end of this season, and he is able to discuss a free transfer with any club should Arsenal not tie him down to a contract soon. The last thing Arsenal want is to sell Ramsey to a direct rival, so they’ll need to consider their options.

The Spanish head coach is looking to build a team around his space-exploiting prowess, with him and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being the main men. Emery certainly won’t want him to leave, and neither will the fans.

With no media attention, the Gunners can continue to discuss their terms in private, and who knows what’s going on behind the scenes?

Players can get caught up in the views they see portrayed by outlets, particularly here in England. I feel like this was the case with Alexis, and while Ramsey is by no means ego-driven, it’s a good thing for Arsenal that the media aren’t swaying him in any direction.

Although Arsenal may have had a major re-shuffle, Ramsey’s importance remains the same. It’s why the Gunners haven’t given up on him like they did with Jack Wilshere.
