Juventus player ratings vs Parma: Matuidi shines as Ronaldo remains scoreless
By John Vaccaro
Douglas Costa 7.5/10
Douglas Costa probably won his starting job back against Parma. He constantly threatened in his second consecutive appearance off the bench. He’s a problem for any defense and it showed once again as he nearly scored a wonder goal, but was thwarted by the problem. He embarrassed Parma’s defense with is dribbling on multiple occasions. It was a short appearance for Douglas Costa, but he certainly impressed in his time on the field.
Emre Can 6.5/10
Emre Can appeared off of the bench for the third consecutive game, but he didn’t do much in his appearance to change that. He was okay defensively in his appearance, helping Juve hold onto the lead late on. However, there was nothing about Can’s performance that really stood out during his 23 minute appearance.
Paulo Dybala 6/10

Through 3 games this hasn’t been a season to remember for Dybala. He struggled in the opener, didn’t appear against Lazio, and then failed to make an impression against Parma. He was brought on to keep Juventus threatening late in the match, but you could be forgiven if you didn’t even realize he was on the pitch. Dybala’s starting spot is slipping away from him and he didn’t change that in his 16 minutes against Parma.
Manager: Massimiliano Allegri 6/10
Allegri starting Cuadrado at right back with Joao Cancelo and Mattia De Sciglio both available was a poor decision. Leaving Cuadrado on late while trying to hold a lead didn’t make things any better. I won’t hold starting Khedira against him because Khedira has been a big part of this Juve team for a few years now. Allegri’s saving graces here were using the 4-3-3 formation and bringing Costa on in the second half. Costa looked fantastic. Regardless of Juve’s struggles today, the 4-3-3 is still the formation they are most likely to succeed in during the Champions League. It would just be nice if Allegri could settle on a lineup some time soon so we can see what Juve is really capable of.
At the end of the day, when a team with Champions League aspirations struggles against a Parma team that hadn’t looked very good this year the manager needs to shoulder some blame
