Manchester United were bound to face the inevitable links with Cristiano Ronaldo, but Jose Mourinho was never interested.

Every year, the Portuguese superstar is linked with a move back to Manchester United. Since leaving to sign for Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has teased the fans a lot, but nothing has materialized. It will be the same this summer with Jose Mourinho at the helm. According to The Mirror, Mourinho actually urged the board to not pursue a move for the departing Madrid man.

This is by no means bad news for Manchester United, and they shouldn’t be shunned upon for it. Their attack is in pretty good condition, it was their defense which needed to be picked up on. The club were linked with the likes of Harry Maguire and Toby Alderweireld, but nothing happened this time round.

That said, a move for Ronaldo would have only papered over the cracks – while being a strain to the funds. Still, I’m sure United’s attacking play would have been much more intriguing to watch with CR7 causing mayhem. Winning every game 5-4 is much more interesting than what the fans are witnessing right now.

Personally, I don’t think United are in a crisis, we’re only four weeks into the Premier League season. All they need is a momentum switch in their favor, and some backing by their manager. It won’t be long until player’s begin to lose their heads if things carry on like this, though.

Ronaldo is enjoying his start to life with Juventus, although he’s still yet to pick up his first goal. He’s been trying too hard, I feel. Particularly in his debut, he was trying to pull off a number of wonder goals to open his account, but I guess that’s why he’s up there with the greatest of all time.

I can’t see Ronaldo returning to United before his career comes to a close, at least not with Mourinho in charge. The two have worked together at Real Madrid, but the two countrymen won’t be working with each other again. It’s nothing personal, of course; nothing is ever personal with Mourinho…
