David de Gea is undeniably one of the most integral players in the Premier League, so it’s no surprise to see Manchester United are willing to splash the cash on him.

Manchester United have suffered a shaky start to their Premier League campaign, in which they sit in 10th place behind rivals Arsenal. Things looked positive yesterday, though, as they beat Burnley by a scoreline of 2-0. It remains to be seen whether their season is on the turnaround, but they’ve received a boost of good news.

According to the The Sun, their Spanish goalkeeper David de Gea is expected to sign a new deal which will tie him to Old Trafford. The contract is set to see him earn a whopping £350,000 per week.

More from Manchester United

This is huge money, but he warrants it. He is the best player Manchester United have at their disposal, and he’s a contender for the best player in the league. There’s a reason he is widely dubbed as the best goalkeeper in the world, and he shows this reason every week for United.

Perhaps too often, the Red Devils have relied on him to see them through matches. Nine times out of ten, he prevails and secures United all the points. We often see the defense exploited, but not so often do we see the goal exploited – that’s all thanks to the one man covering it.

If United are to turn their season around, they will need solidarity and unity, amond a bunch of other things. Having de Gea commit his long-term future to the club will work wonders for his colleagues, and it may even persuade a few of them to put pen to paper themselves.

United are also in the process of convincing Anthony Martial to stay at the club. I think it goes without saying that this task will be ten times as hard, as Jose Mourinho has had quite the spiteful relationship with him.
