Paul Pogba is quickly becoming his own worst enemy at Manchester United

Not Jose Mourinho, not Manchester United, not Mino Raiola, not the fans, Paul Pogba is becoming his own worst enemy.
Many expected that we would be seeing a more mature Paul Pogba at Manchester United this season following his success at the FIFA World Cup over the summer. But United fans have been forced to watch the same lackluster Paul Pogba who seems more intent on making headlines off the pitch.
The midfielder was heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer. While the transfer never materialized, it wasn’t for the lack of effort from the Pogba camp. Ever since the start of the season, the midfielder has been giving interviews teasing issues between him and Jose Mourinho. On the other hand, the manager has been full of praise of his star man and even gave him the armband for the first two games of the season.
The 25-year-old has been at it again during the international break, stirring things up and creating unnecessary drama by fueling transfer talk. “My future is currently in Manchester, I still have a contract, I’m playing there at the moment, but who knows what will happen in the next few months.” Then just 24 hours later, the Frenchman gave another interview saying, “Rumours are rumours, but it’s not me who is talking.”
Pogba sure talks a lot for someone who likes to tell fans not to believe what they read. He has had multiple opportunities to end the rumors, but he has spread more fire to the stories on each occasion.
Pogba came to United as the most expensive player in the club’s history, but he has failed to live up to that price tag so far. Make no mistake, Pogba can be one of the best midfielders in the world on his day, which he has shown on occasions. But sadly, that day seldom arrives and in most games Pogba seems to be happy just strolling around doing nothing. And Manchester United fans deserve better from a player who always says that he will give his all on the pitch for the club.
Both Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney went public with their desire to leave Manchester United. But the major difference between the duo and Pogba was that both Ronaldo and Rooney created a legacy at United and achieved massive success at the club before requesting to leave. Pogba has done nothing of the sort to justify his lack of commitment to the club so far.
For a player who has just won the World Cup, Pogba simply must perform better for the club that pays his mammoth wages. But right now, he seems to care more about his brand and ego than concentrating on his football. Pogba has what it takes to be the next Roy Keane and Bryan Robson for Manchester United, but at the moment, comparisons to Juan Sebastian Veron seem more fitting and accurate.
