CM: Sami Khedira

It has become clear this season that Sami Khedira simply doesn’t have what it takes to compete at the highest levels anymore. Luckily for Juve, he’s still a viable option in most Serie A matches. Juve’s midfield options are limited this season and even more so this week. He signed a contract extension this week, but it’s starting to look like he won’t be a first choice player during the rest of his time at Juve.

Emre Can could get the start in this position, but hopefully Massimiliano Allegri realizes he needs to keep Khedira out of Wednesday’s lineup and gives him the start here. It’s a steep fall for Khedira after being such a big part of Juventus, but Can should take over his spot in big games.

CM: Rodrigo Bentancur

Rodrigo Bentancur has only made one appearance for Juve this season and has yet to start, but this is a perfect opportunity to get him some playing time. This spot would usually be reserved for Miralem Pjanic, but he picked up a minor injury during the international break and probably won’t be risked here. Blaise Matuidi started both of France’s matches during the break and is guaranteed  to have a starting spot on Wednesday. That leaves this spot wide open for Bentancur.

The 21 year old has been constantly improving since joining Juventus last season and impressed in Uruguay’s run to the World Cup quarterfinal. He showed a lot of promise in his appearances last season and will be another young player Juve tries to get involved when the squad needs to be rotated. If he plays well in these appearances he can continue to cement a place in Juve’s future.
