Manchester United 2-1 Bayern Munich (1998/99)

No surprises here. This match featured two of the greatest clubs in Europe, battling it out to make history. Both teams were chasing a historic treble and the 1999 Champions League final ended up being one of the most memorable matches in the history of the competition.

A youthful Manchester United side led by Sir Alex Ferguson and featuring the class of 92 had made it a habit of playing attacking football and scoring late goals. But not even the most optimistic of United fans would have expected the Red Devils to complete the most stunning comeback in the most important match of the season.

More from Manchester United

Bayern Munich, took the lead at the Camp Nou in just the sixth minute thanks to Mario Basler. And they came close to adding to their lead throughout the match as they dominated proceedings, but Peter Schmeichel stood firm in goal for Manchester United.

But then Sir Alex Ferguson brought on Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjær and United started to grow into the game. Both came close to scoring for United but were denied by Oliver Kahn. As we edged closer to the final whistle, it looked like Bayern would hold on to become European champions.

But then United won a corner in injury time and somehow Teddy Sheringham nestled the ball in the back of the net. Just two minutes later, United won another corner. This time Sheringham provided the flick on and Ole Gunnar Solskjær pocked the ball into the back of the net, sending the United fans at the Nou Camp into raptures.

Bayern Munich ribbons had already been secured to the trophy, but Manchester United stunned the world with their late comeback. It was a magical comeback in true Manchester United style and helped the club seal the treble.
