Real Madrid dropped their first points of the season against Athletic Bilbao, but they were far from bad. Let’s have a look at each player’s performance.

Real Madrid were made to slog their evening off to earn a hard fought point in the Basque County against Athletic Bilbao at the San Mames Stadium. Iker Muniain gave the hosts an undeserved and controversial lead in the first half before super sub Isco Alarcon scored a header off Gareth Bale’s cross to equalize for Madrid in the second half.

It was a match that was dominated by the Blancos who surely deserved more than just a point after all the work they put in. It was far from a lackluster performance from the team as an overall unit and the case was much like 2017/18 where the poor finishing in front of goal cost them points.

The draw on Saturday night means that Real Madrid have been winless in their last three fixtures against Athletic Bilbao, however, this performance was much better than the previous two. Let us take a look at how every player fared.

Goalkeeper- Thibaut Courtois- 6.5/10

The former Chelsea goalkeeper started his second game in a row for his new club following the debut versus Leganes two weeks back. The Belgian shot stopper had a relatively quiet night and was barely tested by Athletic Bilbao, who scored their solitary goal in lucky circumstances as mentioned earlier.

However, the Real Madrid goalie did make an important diving save in the very last minute of stoppage time to deny the hosts a probably winning goal.
