Eric Dier-5.5

It was another weak effort from the English midfielder. Victor Wanyama must be playing really poorly in training if he can’t force Dier out of the squad.

Dier played with solid energy today, he just didn’t do anything effective with it. His passing seems to be getting worse and worse as time goes by. His inability to string multiple passes together in the first half put Tottenham’s defence under long spells of pressure.

He’s another player who should be much better when defending set pieces. There’s no excuse for Spurs getting beat so often in the air when Dier’s on the pitch. Tottenham fans should hope Dier is simply fatigued. Otherwise, it’s time to admit he isn’t the player we thought he was or that he used to be.

Mousa Dembele-6.5

Dembele battled valiantly in this one. It wasn’t the classy Belgian’s best match, but he competed for the full 90 minutes. It wasn’t enough in the end, but you can’t fault his effort.

You can, however, point out that Dembele is not a good passer. He does a great job of dribbling past one wave of defenders, but he continues to run out of ideas once he makes that happen. His days at Spurs are clearly numbered, but he put in a solid shift for Pochettino today.
