Harry Kane-6

Kane’s inability to put in a sterling performance doesn’t have anything to do with effort. He gave it everything he had against Inter. It is, however, a matter of the energy he has to give. It’s obvious to anyone watching that he needs a rest.

He simply can’t run as much as he did for the club last season. That means he can’t get into the same dangerous scoring positions that he did. He blew one great finishing chance, but the more noticable problem is the lack of chances he’s creating.

On the bright side, his hold up play did help Tottenham in this match. It wasn’t enough to earn them any points, but for long stretches of time it looked like he would help Spurs salt away a crucial victory.

Kane should not feature against Brighton this weekend, but we expect he will.

Harry Winks-3

The decision to bring Winks on in relief of Lamela was the turning point of the match. Nothing against the tidy English midfielder, but his insertion into the fray caused Tottenham to play really conservative football. That’s why they lost the plot.

Things might have worked out differently had Winks been able to impose himself on the match. The reality is that he got blown by on several occasions by more athletic Inter players. Skill on the ball is great, but it’s not worth anything if you can’t touch it. Winks has to play much better if he doesn’t want to turn into the next Ryan Mason.

Danny Rose-Incomplete

Rose came onto the pitch much too late to really help his club. If he doesn’t start over Davies against Brighton he should riot. There’s no decision to be made between the two at the moment.
