Real Madrid won 3-0 against Roma and put in a dominant display. We look at every player’s detailed performance now ahead of their next fixture.
Real Madrid outclassed AS Roma to begin their UEFA Champions League with a thumping 3-0 win over the Italians. Isco, Gareth Bale and Mariano Diaz were amongst the gorgeous goals that the Whites scored on the return to Europe’s elite competition nearly four months after winning it for a third successive time.
It was an absolutely breath taking performance by Real who were on top of Roma in every aspect. In a match which was his Champions League debut, Julen Lopetegui would be convinced with the display that his men put out on the pitch. Each player did his duty in a disciplined and professional manner. Let us take a look at how everyone coped.
Goalkeeper- Keylor Navas- 8/10
Keylor Navas started after two matches of playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois against Leganes and Athletic Bilbao. The Costa Rican justified his selection by making three vital saves during the match- two against Cengiz Under and one against Aleksandar Kolarov- whenever he had the easy catches, Navas made sure that his distribution from the back helped in running the game.
The Roma clash was Navas’ second shutout of the season in four matches, a feat Thibaut Courtois is yet to achieve having played twice. A clean sheet would have been vital for Navas to make his case for first choice spots more often and it looks to be seen whether he will start in Madrid’s next game against Espanyol.
