A convincing 2-0 win by Bayern Munich saw a few sparkling performances from the German giants
Bayern Munich started their Champions League campaign just the way they would have wanted. A 2-0 win in Portugal over Benfica was filled with dominance in possession and plenty of chances for Bayern.
An early 1-0 lead was taken after a great move down the left side for Bayern. Lewandowski was patient in the box, side stepping a sliding defender before slotting the ball past Benfica keeper Odisseas.
The rest of the first half saw a lot of possession for Bayern and some solid defense from Boateng and Hummels. It was not until the second half that the team found their second goal of the match.
A moment of magic from Renato Sanches saw the ex-Benfica midfielder finish off a beautiful team move to put the away side up 2-0. Benfica did have a few chances in the second half as well, but Neuer came up strong as the defense stood tall.
It may not have been a large margin of victory, but many of the Bayern players had great performances overall. There is still room for improvement, though, as a couple players were subpar at best.
