Real Madrid got 3 vital points by seeing off Espanyol in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium by a 1-0 margin. Here’s a rating of every player who featured.

Real Madrid defeated Espanyol by a 1-0 margin at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Saturday night, thanks to Marco Asensio’s first goal of the season. The Mallorca midfielder struck in the first to ensure a hard-fought win in Spain’s top flight ahead of a demanding series of fixtures.

The Whites had a few headaches to worry about on the night, most of them being from a defensive point of view. Yet, they did fail to create as well as they usually do against a Catalan opponent who came firing from the first minute. Julen Lopetegui did tinker with his team and made sure to give a few fringe players a chance to feature.

Let’s take a look at how everyone fared on the night.

Goalkeeper- Thibaut Courtois- 7/10

Thibaut Courtois finally kept his first clean sheet in Real Madrid colours on his third appearance with his new recruits. The Belgium international had a relatively quiet night against an Espanyol team that did give Real Madrid’s defence a handful of worries, but did not really threaten the goal.

Courtois was called into action on two or three different occasions despite having an expectedly comfortable night and passed his tests with good marks. After a decent performance, which was more functional than impressive, he looks ready to start against Sevilla on Wednesday night.
